Ketamine-Assisted
Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a modality utilized in conjunction with other therapeutic practices to assist eligible clients in working through “stuck points” in their therapeutic journeys. It is a holistic approach that allows for clients to experience more sustained improvements due to the positive relationship between safely administered ketamine and the brain’s neuroplasticity

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a medication that has been used for decades as an anesthetic, but in recent years, it has been found to have powerful effects on mental health—especially for conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and chronic pain. It works differently from traditional antidepressants by helping the brain form new connections, which can improve mood, relieve distress, and offer a new perspective on difficult emotions.

How Does Ketamine Feel?

1. A Sense of Relaxation & Detachment

  • Many people feel a deep sense of calm or relaxation as their usual thought patterns quiet down.

  • Some describe a feeling of lightness or floating, as if they are separate from their body or everyday worries.

2. Changes in Perception

  • Sights, sounds, and time may feel slightly distorted or slowed down.

  • Some people report a dreamlike or surreal state where they feel disconnected from their usual sense of self.

3. Emotional Openness & Insight

  • Many experience reduced anxiety and fear, allowing them to explore emotions with greater ease.

  • Some describe a deep sense of clarity, seeing their problems from a new perspective without emotional weight.

4. Euphoria or Warmth (in some cases)

  • Some report feeling a sense of joy, peace, or connection, as if barriers in their mind have softened.

5. Possible Side Effects (Mild & Temporary)

  • Slight dizziness or nausea (more common with IV or IM administration).

  • Mild confusion or difficulty speaking clearly.

  • Temporary dissociation (feeling detached from thoughts, emotions, or body).

After the Experience

  • Once the effects wear off (typically within 45-90 minutes), people often feel refreshed, lighter, or mentally clearer.

  • Some find it easier to process difficult emotions in therapy, as ketamine can create mental flexibility and openness.

What is the Cost of Treatment?

Preparation and integration sessions can be billed to insurance just as your standard therapy is billed to insurance.

If you are a self-paying client, then you would be responsible for your standard self-pay rate.

Dosing sessions are not covered by insurance at this time. Therefore dosing sessions will be charged at 25% discount of the client’s self-pay rate for each hour of the dosing sessions. For example if a client’s self-pay rate is $100 per session then the client would be charged $225 for one full dosing session versus $300.
