MEET ALEX
My family likes to tell a story about my first day of preschool. As the story goes, there was a little boy in the parking lot tearful about going to an unfamiliar place and leaving the safety of his mom. I went up to him, put my arm around his shoulders, and without knowing what lay on the path ahead, walked alongside him as we together faced transition, uncertainty, and opportunity for growth. Little did I know that day I had embraced the foundations of what I find gratifying in my present-day work.
As a therapist, I am here to walk alongside you as we work towards your mental health goals. Whether you know what those goals are now or you need help figuring them out, I’m here to help support your growth. In our work together, I aim to be a support, collaborator, and fellow human being. I want you to know that you are not alone as you uncover your path forward.
WHO I HELP?
I’ve spent most of my career working with teenagers and adults and find that I love to help people define and embrace a life of authenticity. I take an empathy-forward and strengths-based approach when collaborating with folks working through issues related to anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, substance use, and women’s/LGBTIA+ issues. In my theoretical approach, I primarily use an eclectic blend of acceptance and commitment, dialectical behavioral, and solution-focused philosophies. What this means is that our sessions together will be flexible based on what works for you. Rather than sticking to a rigid approach, we will spend our time building a therapeutic relationship that is focused on supporting you.
WHAT CAN YOU SPECT?
During therapy, you can expect my guidance in identifying your personal values and actionable goals to move towards a life of alignment. We may also use a harm reduction lens to minimize dual-edged or harmful coping strategies so you can refunnel your energy to causes that matter to you. In addition to having a safe, non-judgemental space to workshop emotional and interpersonal issues, you can also expect to embrace resilience, mindfulness, and willingness to be present with the full scope of the human emotional experience. In a broad sense, our time together offers a safe space to explore challenging feelings, cope with life transitions, build coping skills, develop stronger relationships, and take a deep breath outside of the challenges of day-to-day life.
When I am not at AMW then you will find me?
